The first step. Each bat is cleaned by hand to ensure a dirt free surface for accurate compression testing. All stains are removed and the bat is visually inspected for chips, cracks and abnormal wear.
Each bat is compression tested at three points on the barrel. Readings are given a pass or a fail as determined by USA Softball’s bat threshold specifications. SoCal Batcraft utilizes only the G4 SSL bat testers. The exact same instrument used by USA Softball and NCAA to certify bats. It is a nonintrusive test that does not affect the bat. The results of the compression test determines if the bat is legal to be used in play. Test readings can be compared over time to track bat wear.
We also offer compression testing alone for tournament bat certification with sanctioning bodies, travel ball and recreation leagues.
Every bat that is serviced is weighed upon arrival and when finished. Batcraft also weighs the bat at both the big end (barrel) and the small end (knob). With these readings we are able to determine how much percentage of the weight is carried on the big end of the bat. Similar to knowing the actual “end load.”
There are a couple of things to consider when choosing and installing a new grip. A quality grip not only provides tackiness for control, but it also provides shock absorption to the hands reducing “sting.” The thickness, installed length and color have options. Grips are available in .5 mm, 1.1 mm and 1.8 mm thickness. Grip length must be between 6” and 15” measured from the knob. The thicker and longer the grip is, the more shock absorption it provides. SoCal Batcraft uses only Lizard Skins products to ensure quality.
SoCal Batcraft is not associated or affiliated with USA Softball or NCAA.
